Displays Offer Outstanding Value for Publishing Customers
CUPERTINO, Calif., May 5
/PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer, Inc. today introduced the new high-performance,
AppleVision(R) 850 AV and AppleVision 850 color displays for publishers, multimedia
authors, photographers, and other professionals who rely on consistent visual
performance and color accuracy, as well as for users of spreadsheet and
page-layout applications who require a large display that supports very high
resolution. Both displays incorporate Apple's proven DigitalColor technology
for state-of-the-art color accuracy, which is achieved through a patented
internal calibration system that adjusts color over time with minimal user
interaction. The displays support Apple's ColorSync(R) technology for color
matching across multiple devices such as color printers and scanners by
allowing display profiles to be created on the fly. Both displays also feature
extensive, easy-to-use software control of screen geometry, mode switching, and
color settings.
"The AppleVision 850
AV and AppleVision 850 displays truly complement our professional Power
Macintosh(R) computer systems," said Phil Schiller, Apple vice president
of product marketing for desktops, servers and displays. "When you combine
one of these new displays with a Power Mac(R) 9600 or 8600 for professional
publishing or media authoring, you are getting some of the very best in
graphics performance, image quality, color accuracy and industrial
design."
The AppleVision 850
displays feature a 20-inch (19-inch viewable image size) Sony Trinitron(TM)
tube with an anti-reflection screen coating; a maximum resolution of up to 1600
by 1200 pixels at 75 Hz; and AppleVision software for the Macintosh(R), which
allows user control of the display.
Audio/Video Capabilities
The AppleVision 850 AV
includes integrated front-facing, high-output stereo speakers that rival
bookshelf quality without adding to desktop clutter. Their surround-sound
support provides greater spatial separation and improved performance. In
addition, the AppleVision 850 AV includes an integrated noise-canceling
microphone engineered for close-up recording, voice annotation, speech
recognition, and speakerphone use. An audio-output jack is available for
connecting headphones or audio/video recorders.
Apple DigitalColor
Technology
AppleVision displays are
designed with Apple DigitalColor technology, an internal calibration system
that adjusts for the changing environmental conditions that affect the way
users perceive on-screen color. An internal feedback system ensures that the
color remains accurate and consistent with original factory settings, even over
time. Apple's DigitalColor technology also provides the user with control over
the white point settings to simulate different lighting conditions and to
compensate for the impact of ambient light on those conditions. Apple
DigitalColor technology allows many users to save time and money by using the
display to perform on-screen color proofing.
Energy Efficient
Both AppleVision 850
displays qualify for the EPA Energy Star rating and comply with the TCO '92
standards. The displays comply with the VESA DPMS standard as well as MPRII for
electrical and magnetic field emissions.
System Requirements
The AppleVision 850 AV and
AppleVision 850 displays are compatible with any Macintosh computer with a
Motorola 68040 or PowerPC(TM) processor. To take advantage of AppleVision
software and Apple DigitalColor technology, users must have Mac(R) OS Version
7.1 or greater. Both displays, however, can be used with Window 95-based PC
systems. For Windows 95-based systems, a Macintosh-to-VGA adapter is provided.
Availability and Price
The AppleVision 850 display
is available immediately through Apple(R) authorized resellers worldwide, with
an estimated retail price in the United States of U.S. $1850. The AppleVision
850 AV display is expected to be available in June, 1997, with an estimated
retail price U.S. $2000. Customers outside the United States should contact
their local Apple representative for more information.
